Methods and Mysteries
The difference between the warforged created by the Disciples and the constructs created by the College are not subtle in the slightest. The warforged are steel forms held together by magic and imbued with unique souls of their own. The war machines, on the other hand, were mindless killing machines, little more than incredibly large and deadly toasters, for all the capacity for thought they carried. At the end of the war, the College deactivated the war machines, moving them to what amounts to a giant junk yard just outside the city. The Disciples first attemped to do just the same to the warforged, but the Church stepped in, tentatively accepting the warforged into the church, and condemning any who attempted to ‘shut down’ a warforged as a murderer. Unfortunately, this did nothing to remove the warforged’s stigma as machines forged solely for, well, war. Even today, nearly 400 years after the fighting stopped, warforged are treated as second class citizens at best, and abominations at worst. Most warforged have taken to the sewers and canals beneath the city known as the Warrens, living out their lives in a self-imposed solitary confinement, rather than attempting to force their way into a world that constantly belittles, segregates, and demeans them.
